According to recent studies, an eight-week mindfulness meditation program can make sensible changes in the brain regions associated with stress, emotional and physical pain, empathy, anxiety and depression. These changes can have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing. The Meditation and Mindfulness for Wellbeing course is designed to help people whose desire is to make these changes, to become healthier and to elevate functions in their lives.
The outline of the course I run is as follows:
- Orientation. Introduction
- Stress
- Meditation and Mindfulness and Physical Pain
- Emotional Stress, Anxiety and Depression
- Role Stress and Time Pressure
- Taking Care of Yourself
- Elevated Function
- Changing Your Life
In the 8 weeks, you will learn 4 different types of meditation practices, some mindful exercises and how to incorporate these into your daily routine. During each session, there will be plenty of time for group sharing and discussion to see how things are progressing.
The course is based on the mindfulness for wellbeing program as taught and run by Zenways. It is not Buddhist, spiritual or religious and does not require you to be anything but curious to explore your own development.
Please note that generally mindfulness and meditation isn’t normally helpful for people with mental conditions such as paranoia or schizophrenia, and may make such conditions worse. If in doubt about this please double check with your doctor.
